Following in my personal research about the independent cultural centres (now is a personal research, before was a thesis, in the future who knows) it was the turn for finding out about the ukrainian independent cultural centre associated to the main group of this kind of centres on Europe (the continent, not the Union).
It wasn´t a surprised that there were changes made there due the east ukrainian conflict (the centre is...WAS located on Donetsk). But the surprise got even bigger once I contacted with the direction centre and gave me a diary entry and some stuff about the new order in the centre, which actually was seized by the pro-russian militia and now serves as a storage for their own purposes (purposes absolutely not related with art).
The direction and members of the centre (on independent centres are often the same people due the standard size and its humble ways of handling) moved to another building on Kiev but before they made some interviews with the new rulers of the place, including the polite sniper sited in the roof since the takeoff. Well! and then, these new leaders closed the centre because they considered that the art they were exposing in there was no art but "pornography trash" and "westernized corrupted propaganda"...yeah, clearly they are bringing the freedom there I see...
In the interview with a militian (nacho)head, the art the "commander" of that squad was using to justify his own words was a set of photography made by some local artist which consisted of naked people from the current exposition in there (first of all, independent cultural centres are not exactly galleries nor museums but supporting centres for new and young artists with few resources and where the alternative ways and projects pour as water from fountains).
Pfiu! Ok...I´m getting too dense. But I had to say, I didn´t like what I saw: censoring and kicking out groups for their own pruporses, breaking and destroying works of others because "is not what they do like" and these pro-russians showing themselves as close-minded armed of rednecks but in russian version. Ok, I´m not a great supporter of post-modernism art and contemporary movements and even I always get out a bit raged and disgusted from ARCO but it´s a more serious problem (and crime) to make this kind of invasions.
Whatever the background is, it´s not acceptable, no matter if there was a hided Coup D´Etat behind on Maidan and NATO is with the other side, no matter if Russia is feeling besieged (sigh)...it´s no use to make political arguments when affecting people who are not guilty of anything that have happened and when, if the pro-russians are like the "nice guys" (according with some resources on Spain), militarizing entire regions just for making other countries continuing playing Risk on global levels for their own and selfish interests. One thing they told me is that, they just want to come back to the normality, as this stupid situation is spliting even families.
...well, that reminds me how Civil Wars are so close to that...
And (and I finish already! I swear!) because of those militia arguments I got the idea to show REAL illustrations about what is pornographic on purpose and erotic theme...which it doesn´t stop to stay inside the culture, but in a mass-media or midcult level, as most of current illustration is.
